On March 27th the Zoning Committee will hold a hearing on the planned development (#19084) proposed by LSC Development, LLC, for the property located at 5150 N. Northwest Highway. While many of us would have preferred not to see another storage facility go up in the area, we were going to get one either way. LSC had planned to retrofit the existing, antiquated, and unsightly commercial space. That would have left us with an eyesore of very little value or appeal as a gateway to our shopping and restaurant district and to what should be a walkable, attractive, transit-oriented corridor. Alderman Arena made the most out of the situation by moving the storage facility aspect back off of the main gateway and preserving half of the site for future mixed use development, a much higher and better use for the parcel than simply retrofitting the existing antiquated building.
